Ruth Beitia ((:rut ˈβeitja); born 1 April 1979) is a Spanish high jumper.
==Biography==
In 1998 Beitia broke her first Spanish record, jumping 1.89 m. In the years following, she improved her cleared jump heights several times. Finally, on 4 August 2007, she achieved 2.02 m, which is the current Spanish record. She is the first, and thus far, only Spanish woman who has broken through the barrier of two meters, and was the 9th best global mark in 2003. Her early major international results were achieved indoors. In 2005, she won the silver medal at the 2005 European Indoor Championships, held in Madrid, where her jump of 1.99 m, was only beaten by Russian Anna Chicherova. In 2006 she won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Moscow, where she jumped 1.98 m, and was only beaten by the Russian Olympic champion Yelena Slesarenko and Croatian Blanka Vlasic. She was a finalist at the 2003 World Championships in Paris, where she held 11th position. In the world championships at Helsinki 2005 she failed to reach the finals.
Ruth Beitia was a finalist in the 2002 European Athletics Championships in Munich, where she held 11th position. She participated in the 2004 Athens Olympics, but failed to reach the finals. She has been champion of Spain once outdoors (in 2003), and indoor champion four times (in 2002-03-04-05). She belongs to the Club Valencia Terra i Mar and her coach is Ramon Torralbo. She is 1.92 m tall, and weighs 71 kg. In 2004, she managed to jump the indoor 2.00 m, equaling her best outdoor jump. On 8 March 2009, she won the silver medal in the high jump, her third medal at the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships held in Turin, with a mark of 1.99 m. She was bested by German Ariane Friedrich with a mark of 2.01 m. In the Berlin World Championships in 2009, she took 5th place, with a mark of 1.99 m.

Ruth Beitia won the gold medal at the European Championships, held in Helsinki in 2012 with a mark of 1.97 m. In the 2012 London Olympics she was fourth, after beating the 2.00 mark with a jump of 2.03 m. Ruth Beitia won the gold medal at the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships, held in Gothenburg, with a mark of 1.99 m.
